This makes using a suede conditioner all the more important. Suede as a material is highly porous so it needs to be conditioned more often than other types of leather. Step one. You will need a suede protector spray and a suede cleaning brush. You might also need a small knife, a nail brush, a sponge, a shoe tree. If you don’t have one of these, you will need some white tissue or newspaper and a small crepe rubber or a pencil eraser. After you’ve spent the time to thoroughly clean your suede boots, you should consider protecting them with a commercial suede protector to provide extra protection from staining.

All you do is spray it on your suede before your first wear and then reapply it to your suede before each wear after that.

One of the problems with using a leather conditioner on suede is that it can leave blotchy spots all over your suede item. Remember, whatever your method of cleaning, never heat your suede shoes, as this will damage the material. Always allow them to dry naturally and brush the suede down to keep them looking smooth. The first step is to remove any factory stains that are on the shoe with the suede eraser. It happens. The stains aren’t too bad, so they come out pretty easily. Once that’s done, and you spot treat the shoes, you grab the premium brush, and you remove any of the residues from the suede eraser and just brush the entire shoe lightly to get off any extraneous dirt that’s on there. Please note before using a Suede protector we recommend you try it on a small part of the suede first, allow it to dry and if all ok apply to the rest of the upper **

The only real downside with going with this method is the cost. Dry cleaning can often get expensive, especially when you make individual requests such as softening of the material.
