They both appear to have witnessed a woman being savagely attached in a nearby house that is supposed to be empty as it is being renovated. And when they see news reports of a missing woman who was last seen walking alone not far from them, the pair are convinced it’s her they saw being attacked—no matter what the police say. There are some books that you have to keep reading (or listening to) because they’re so well written and plotted that you are drawn in and have to know what happens next. A sleep-deprived mother of two Mary and an insomniac former journalist Tim, see some violent actions in a house across the street and go there at 4 a. It didn’t deter my reading, but I wonder if other readers would’ve embraced the silliness a bit more if it was straightforward in the funny department.

Looking out into the quiet neighborhood, she believes that she sees something at the vacant house across the street. It is a well-written multi-POV and well-paced story that had me questioning who I could trust and what was reliable enough to believe. Then, there are books like this one that are so ridiculous and inconceivable that you only continue to invest your time in them, simply to find out how much more unbelievable they can get. Her daughter, Audrey, was the uncontested star of this book—which is why I gave this two stars instead of one.

despite Audrey's constant rants, and she thankfully blended into the background and became more of hubby's problem to deal with once he decided to be a parent instead of sleeping in when Mary more than deserved one. Understandably she is very tired with two small children but I felt she should have been portrayed as much smarter than this book gave her credit for.But with her marriage under strain and the police on their tail, Mary begins to doubt her own mind…and Tim’s.
