Select a drill bit that is about the same diameter as your hook screw's threaded shaft, but smaller than the outer threads themselves. Plasterboard Fixings– When hanging anything heavy from a plasterboard wall, it is always better to use more fixings than you might normally need. Using four plasterboard fixings instead of, say, two fixings, will greatly help to spread the load of the wall unit, shelf, etc, and therefore reduce the chance of the fixings pulling out of the wall.

4 Pack Carbon Steel Plasterboard Ceiling Hooks Screw-in Wall

The clamps will allow one person to hold and align the panels in position – saving on expensive double-labour costs associated with this type of work.A neat and strong, all-in-one plasterboard fixing. These are available in a variety of types, with standard screw heads, as well as hooks and loops. This makes them good for hanging things from a plasterboard ceiling. They are also available in a range of sizes. A hole is drilled that matches the width of the unexpanded plastic sheath. The expanding anchor is pushed all the way into the hole and then tightened by turning the screw, hook, or loop. As the screw tightens, the plastic sheath spreads until it is tightly pulled against the inside face of the plasterboard. Metal spring toggles offer the best support for hanging on a plasterboard wall. The metal toggle is squeezed flat and pushed through the drilled hole in the plasterboard. Once it is behind the plasterboard, the toggle springs open and the two wings pull flat against the inside face. As the supplied machine screw is tightened, the wings are pulled tight against the inside face and spread the weight of the load. Unfortunately, I have no idea about what specific kind of drywall plate it is or how it was attached; at any rate there is only a fixed place that I can hang the plant from so that it doesn't prevent me from opening window.

Home Improvement Specialist Expert Interview. 7 January 2021. A toggle anchor with a hook consists of a bolt threaded through the center of two spring-loaded wings; a hook is attached to the end of the bolt instead of a standard bolt head. There are various sizes of hook screws. If your item is small, use cup hooks or, even smaller, screw eye hooks. All plasterboard fixings are designed to do basically the same thing: Increase the area of the plasterboard which is put under stress by the object hanging from it. However, not all of them do this in the same way and not all of them are suitable for all applications. As a general rule, use plastic or metal screw in fixings for light loads, plastic anchor or spring toggles for medium loads, and metal spring toggles for heavy loads. Decide where you will install the hook. Grab the stud finder to locate a joist in that area. Don’t have a stud finder, try one of these 5 Ways to Find a Stud without a Stud Finder. Make several passes to ensure you know exactly where the joist begins and ends, and mark the area accordingly. Step 2 These plastic plugs are not much different from standard wall plugs, except that they are generally shorter and wider, and they spread more when the fixing screw is inserted and tightened. Cheap and easy to use, but only suitable for light loads. As with a normal wall plug, a hole of the correct size needs to be drilled into the plaster (slightly smaller than the plug) before the plug is inserted. Poly-Toggle or Nylon Toggle I have always had the “make it myself” attitude and I’m not afraid to bust out the power tools or get creative when it comes to decorating our home on a budget. You can usually find me scouring the local thrift stores, garage sales and estate sales looking for my next makeover (like this litter box cabinet), or dreaming up ways to make our new house feel more like home. My most recent project was giving my home office a much needed facelift. Some of the plans included creating a fun inspirational accent wall and adding pegboard to store my craft hoards. Fixing to Dry-Lined WallsUsing a 3/8″ drill bit and drill, make a larger hole into the ceiling drywall to fit the end of the toggle bolt. Step 4 There are a few different methods to install a ceiling hook to hang a plant from, but this post is going to cover two of them. The first method involves finding a joist, and the second method uses a toggle bolt. Don’t let the words “joist” or “toggle bolt” worry you though, both of these methods are very easy, and require few tools. Read on for instructions for two ways to install a ceiling hook. I have a potted plant (approx 5kg/10lbs) that I wish to hang from a drywall ceiling of a window aisle. Cavity fixings work in a similar way to plastic or poly toggles. They are pushed into a pre-drilled hole and then the action of the machine screw turning in the fixing spreads four wings outwards to grip against the inside face of the plasterboard. Most cavity fixings have a toothed flange to grip the outer surface of the plasterboard. This needs to be pressed firmly into the surface of the plasterboard to stop the fixing turning as it is tightened. Do you have attic access above the spot on the ceiling? I would try to toenail a cross piece perpendicular to the ceiling joists where you want to hang your plant. If there isn't room to swing a hammer between the joists and rafters that close to the edge of the roof, you could just screw into the end of the cross piece through the joists with 3" wood screws.
