However, what I really wasn't fond of was that Harley seemed to give up her emotional feelings when someone simply told her to- and then was overly violent at other times.

Book Series In Order Bella Forrest - Book Series In Order

It is an entertaining story and it does indeed remind me of Harry Potter. And Harley is 19 when we meet her, which is nice in that it makes me feel less like I’m reading a children’s book.Fans of witches and magic, prepare for an enthralling new journey from million-bestselling author Bella Forrest. Second, there are quite a few excess coordinate commas, and a good few vocabulary issues - homonym errors (like diffuse/defuse); wrong word choices for what the author means (like "conscience" when she means "consciousness"); and one of my pet hates, the jargon "going forward" repeatedly used to mean "in future" or "from now on". Harley Merlin used to be in an orphanage. She went from foster home to foster home, but got treated very badly in each one, and also in the schools she went to. Because of her magical abilities and the fact that she was an orphan, people called her a "freak".

Bella Forrest

Bella Forrest enjoys offering advice to those who are aspiring to be authors. She encourages them to continue reading in their spare time; books inside and outside of the writer’s genre can give a raw outlook and arouse fresh thoughts for new advancements in the up and coming novel. Forrest recommends studying another language to expand an author’s understanding of grammar and their grasp on their native language. She also urges prospective authors to set a minimum amount of time devoted solely to writing every day. This book was wonderful. Why because best friends, Persie and Genie, are different. They are young, anxious to be on their own and fearless. Persie seems to be the first human being to purge Beasts. Moire important, she recognizes their uniqueness and personalities. In this book she purges dozens of Pixies who are mischievous, alert, aware beings. Persie can't abide putting them in boxes to power the beastiary. She dreams about how she would feel if she were in a glass enclosed box with no communication. When Magicals, including her best friend, Genie, disappear she calls upon her Pixies to help her find and return them. The author starts this book with a small synopsis of what transpired in the first book, making it easy for those who didn’t read it to understand whatever is happening. All the characters in the first book are more fleshed out, especially Tatyana, who remained a bit of a mystery in the first book. Holly continues to grow in friendship and loyalty to a team of young magicals who are all in their late teens like her. They include Tatyana Vasilisa, Santana Catemaco, Raffe Levi, Astrid Hepler, Dylan Blight, and Wade Crowley, who is Harley’s romantic interest throughout this series. In addition, Garrett Kyteler, who was formerly close friends with Finch before his betrayal of the SDC, is now a member of their team. Up until now, he has been presented as continually acting like a sneering jerk, so it is a difficult transition for the team incorporating him into their midst. As for the book itself. I loved it. At the beginning I didn't like Harley's point of view and then the book really got going. An annoying thing, though, was the minor plot-holes I'd been ignoring them so far but I couldn't any more. The one plot-hole that I'm glad for is the humans seeing monsters. In the first book humans couldn't see the monsters and I'm glad that the author changed that.Harley’s most important characteristics, which make her a very sympathetic protagonist, are: compassion, courage, and enough conviction in her mission that she never gives up or sits on the sidelines. This is true of Santana as well, though, right from the first, it is obvious that, of the whole team, including Wade, Harley potentially has the most magical power of any of them. Harley Merlin is the protagonist of the Harley Merlin series, books 1-9 (First arc). Harley is an orphan and one of Katherine Shipton's main targets in the first arc. She was brought into the SDC by Wade Crowley, her future husband, where she found her Esprit, a bracelet that used to belong to her mother. Other than her Esprit (and perhaps a few other things), one of her most prized possessions before she gave it to Marie Laveau was a note from her father that said, " Harley, I am so sorry for doing this to you, but there is no other way. Stay safe. Stay smart. I love you. Dad."

Harley Merlin 21: Persie Merlin and the Dying Song Harley Merlin 21: Persie Merlin and the Dying Song

Harley Merlin can sense people’s emotions, among other things. It’s how she snagged her first job pinpointing cheaters at a casino.Lastly, to market this book as a must-read for HP fans and liken it to that level of fiction is outrageous! While there are similarities in concept, clearly the author was inspired by JK Rowling and perhaps even Lev Grossman, it not anywhere close to the level of craftsmanship displayed in “Harry Potter”, “The Magicians”, or even “Twilight” (and I thought that series was poorly written). Whoever Bella Forrest is I think it would behoove her to focus more on the Quality of the stories she wants to tell and not the Quanity of books she’s pumping out. World-building - There wasn't much to begin with. It's not exactly a radical idea. Secret society, keeping magic from the world for their and its own good. The Harry Potter influence is actually quite heavy, there are scenes which literally feel like a retelling. It's not completely off-putting though. Some of it I even enjoyed. The Character-building - Other than Wade (the love interest, which was laughably obvious from his intro) I couldn't connect to ANYONE in the book, including our MC. You will also interact more with Tatyana, the resident ghost-whisperer at the Coven. Tatyana doesn’t mind making sacrifices for others, but she has secrets she is keen to protect. There are also other members of Harley’s group who work alongside her in her adventures. Will Harley and her friends manage to round up the young magicals coming through the foster system? Read this intriguing book for answers to these and more.
